It’s no secret that house music is gaining traction west of the Atlantic Ocean. A genre full of rhythm, funk, high hats, and soul, it’s starting to become more prevalent throughout the US club scene. If you’re one of those that spent most of their summer listening to house and techno (like some of us at DMNW), you probably heard this artist’s work.
One of the four founders of the German label This Ain’t Bristol, UK producer and DJ Billy Kenny is an artist whose music will always bring a good time. Some recognizable releases include I Operate with Abby Jane and collaboration with Maximono, Must Be off the Dirtybird label. In addition, a few staple collaborations you probably heard in the house racks (along with I Operate) this summer come from the Billy Kenny and Friends EP and Billy Kenny and Maximono’s One Night Stand EP—The Lonely Robot with Walker & Royce, The Rave Cave with Kry Wolf, Hulahoop and The Booty Call with Maximono.
Now back with a new EP, The Hood, Billy Kenny’s tracks will certainly be on our list for the night (literally). Consisting of two tracks, each one has that somewhat abrasive, yet funky and weird UK garage and house beat to keep you bumping until the end.
Kicking off the EP, The Hood Girl follows Billy Kenny’s deep bassline and repetitive high-hat style. The beginning sets the tone with a laser-scratching sound to prepare you for a swaying beat. A female voice enters with rhythmic, smooth, and suave vocals that will certainly make all the girls (and guys) get down at the show tonight. With a mix of jungle drums and diverse eclectic atmospheric sounds, it certainly is a vibrant start to the EP.
Following in suit with spacey echoing tune is Trip Report. When reflecting on the title alone, we know it’s about to be a fun (and wild) ride. Similarly to the previous track, a female voice starts us off. Beckoning out to the audience, she heeds way for the heavy, off the wall 4/4 beat.

The EP comes out while he’s on the road for his Planet Earth tour, which is making it’s way to Seattle TONIGHT. With an open to close set at Q Nightclub, where we’re lucky enough to get four hours of the talented man himself. Billy Kenny’s stellar performance at Shambhala Music Festival showed off his diversity of sound, which included an array of house, plus DnB and even a little old school, making us excited to see him back in the northwest so shortly afterwards.
We’re certainly looking forward to hearing The Hood, plus a mix of our favorite hard hitting UK garage and housey tracks rattle the club this evening. Make sure to check out the EP, released today through the Chicago-based label Relief, and get your tickets to his open to close at Q Nightclub for $18.38 after taxes. Doors open at 10pm, and keep the party going ’til 2am!
