Astrocolor II on Vinyl is Almost as Good as Seeing Them Live (Almost)

Recently, a small flicker of chance rose and saw fit to place Astrocolor II on vinyl neatly at our doorstep. An unassuming package to say the least, in a  black sleeve with a postage stamp denoting the album’s name, tracks, and creators. This facade, as we would come to discover, is merely a modest veneer for what lays inside.

Stretched out and laying comfortably over at least five sub-genres, while still keeping a solid stance of it’s own, this album is a sampler’s paradise, full of rich tones and opulent progressions that will make your brain salivate. Luckily, Astrocolor saw fit to include some reworks on the B-side to get the remix train a rollin’. We’re hoping there will be many more.

This summer, Astrocolor will be touring through some of the best festivals in Brittish Columbia including Tall Tree, Atmosphere Gathering, Motion Notion, and Rifflandia. If you ever get the chance to see them, we would highly recommend it. If you can’t, send them an email and get your hands on this glorious vinyl!

We shudder to provide a digital sample in a vinyl review, but maybe these two songs will get you started. First is Push Too Hard, which acts as a phenomenal gateway to the album. Capturing you with synthetic pipes and smooth vocals before pushing you ever forward into new musical landscapes, constantly asking “Have I gone too far? Tell me when I push too hard.”

The second song is by Astrocolor’s sister band, Weird Party. This is the instrumental approach that provides much of the source material that Astrocolor samples, loops, and sequences. It’s smooth as glass with some tasty guitar licks; simple yet refined. Tahiti is from Weird Party’s 2014 album Mellow Funk.
