Rifflandia Festival is back for it’s tenth outing, and they wasted no time or resources to make sure it’s the best year yet. In an age where Canadian music festivals are having to scale back their lavish lineups and star-studded events, due to the failing dollar and over saturation in the market, Rifflandia drops a lineup that appeals to everyone. From the old school hip hop heads, to the festival rave child, right down to the jaded alt-rocker in all of us, you’ll certainly find yourself dancing the night away.
Spanning 10+ venues, 4 days, and over 100 artists, the festival practically shuts down the city for the weekend as you immerse yourself in classic Victoria fun. Jumping between venues all day and settling into one of the many night stages always makes things diverse! The wonderful thing about Rifflandia’s system is that you don’t have to be locked into a single venue all night. You can venture off if the rave tent is a bit much or the hip-hop stage is just a bit too wild. Plus, you can always go wind down at one of the smaller, intimate venues across the city to re-energize.
The first wave lineup treats us to a wide range of artists. From the old school techno and rave sounds of Moby, to the ear shattering rock of July Talk, the conscious vibes of A Tribe Called Red, and the old school hip hop jams of Bliss n Esso, this lineup really does exist for everyone. If the rave music is really your thing, then make sure to see a rare DJ set from the legendary Hot Chip or some turntablism with Z-Trip. And of course, our friends Skiitour are coming to bring the snow in September to round out the electronic lineup nicely. Additional favorites on the lineup also include Zed’s Dead and the Montreal electro trio Black Tiger Sex Machine.
We can also look forward to the rock music Rifflandia emerged from, with sets from Said The Whale, Five Alarm Funk, Yukon Blonde, Astrocolor and Dear Rouge to look forward too. This first wave makes us wonder what additions will be on the second wave. With how many superstars are on this lineup already, it’s hard to imagine who else we could see! Check out the full lineup below!
