Subculture Saturdays Celebrates 3 Years With G Jones’s Vision Tour

Peanut butter and chocolate, sunshine and sand, pineapple and pizza- some things are just better together. Red Room Ultra Bar’s Subculture Saturdays has been blowing heavy bass in our ears for 3 years now, and they brought in their own sonic combo to celebrate the anniversary. Who could think of a better pairing than G Jones and PK Sound?

Since January, G Jones has been traveling all over the US for his Visions Tour. The tour is named after his EP Visions, which released January 26, 2017, and Vancouver, BC had the pleasure of welcoming Sayer and Plastician as the opening acts for this stop of the tour. The bass heavy EP is intense, so we had high, heavy hopes for the tour.

The night before the Vancouver, BC show, The Visions Tour made a stop in Bellingham, WA at The Wild Buffalo. The music completely cut out 4 times during G Jones Wild Buffalo set- there was some type of technical difficulty during the show. While The Wild Buffalo does not typically host such low-end heavy artists, Red Room has a reputation for hosting some of the biggest names in bass. It was clear that these artists were more at home on a system that could handle their intense rumbles, and the PK Sound was in full force from start to finish.

Local opener Konka kicked things off, leading into Sayer’s performance. He played heavier music than a typical opener would play, including some Ivy Lab tracks. The mixing was extremely well done, and the crowd welcomed the energy.

Next up was bass legend Plastician. The performance contained multiple grime tracks, including some of his collaborations with UK grime standout Skepta. While it was clear why the widely notable dubstep originator played after Sayer, his set began with much less energy than Sayer’s. Plastician built the energy during his performance, reaching a high roughly fifteen minutes in that plateaued through the rest of his set.

Red Room’s dance floor was filled by the time G Jones started his set. He played in his typical style, heavy bass from start to finish. The performance included a diverse variety of his own tracks, from classics to unreleased music.

G Jones’s intense low physically shook the Club. PK Sound typically turns bass into a physical experience, but this was one of the more intense bass shows we have seen at the venue.

In typical Red Room fashion the music pounded until 3 AM. It takes an excellent performance to keep an audience going that deep into the AM, and that is just what these 4 performers gave us. Subculture Saturdays has had 3 years of amazing shows, making it clear they aren’t stopping anytime soon!
