Liquid Stranger Shared His 4-Point Success Strategy With Us at Lucky

Recently Martin Stääf, more commonly known as Liquid Stranger, made an appearance in the lovely bass capital of Washington. The PNW bass-heads struck a pot of gold at Lucky 2017 this year with Liquid Stranger being on the lineup once again. We had the opportunity to sit down with Martin to talk about his music, highlights, and even learned a valuable life lesson.

The past couple of years has been filled with nothing but hard work and payoff for Liquid Stranger. From going on two tours totaling over 90 shows to starting a new record label, Wakaan, Martin’s label has been a huge part of his life since he started it over a year and a half ago. When we asked about the label, Martin explained to us one of the reasons why he started it:

“I never really had a home, I’ve been looking for a friendship/family platform where I can really work with people I believe in and support them fully. I can be a curator and help other people expedite their careers and that means a lot to me. In that sense, also have a home for myself.”

As a label owner, Martin is always on the lookout for new aspiring artists. We asked if he had some tips for aspiring DJs out there and the answer that we got was astonishing, to say the least.

Martin explained that he follows a four-step formula in life. Whether it’s about music or just the simple things, this formula helped him get to the place that he is at today. Pursuing a career in music or any career, he believes these four steps will lead you in the right direction:

1. Know what you want. Be focused.
2. Get the skills and abilities. (Know the interface and learn the tools to communicate. Such as computer systems and the actual technology to produce the music)
3. Get off your a** and work. (You need to work hard and be diligent. Work hard and never stop.)
4. Surrendering. (Complete the project and move on. Let it go, give it to the universe.)

When it comes to EDM, there are so many genres and sub-genres, with new ones appear as time goes on. Martin talked about how Liquid Stranger has become an “alien-based free-form bass music,” with his inspirations coming from all over the place; from video games to the psychedelic 70s children shows to even classical music.

With his music constantly changing, it’s hard to categorize it in one specific genre. However, many of us love seeing Liquid Stranger perform because he brings something new to the table every time. Martin sees his constantly changing music as a blessing and a curse.

“It’s a blessing because it keeps my sound fresher. The curse is that I don’t ever feel like home in any musical genre.”

Martin was born in Sweden but is living now in Arizona. The work ethic and the strong music environment in the U.S is what intrigued him. West coast, bass coast, best coast. Martin told us he was really excited to be back at Lucky festival for another time around.

Of course, we had to find out for all you bass-heads out there what Liquid Stranger has in store for the future. Let’s just say, 2017 is going to be a huge year.

“Yes, a lot to look forward to. I’ve been making a lot of music. I’m working on an album, EPs, Wakaan complexation, DJ mix, and collabs. Releasing a lot of new music this year.”
