This year, we decided to kick off New Year’s Day the only way we know how – dancing. For the second year in a row, a few of us at DMNW have danced in the new year at The Breakfast Club, one of Monkey Loft’s 12-hour parties, put on by Shameless Productions.
Running from 4 am – 4 pm, still ups and just ups brought every bit of energy they had left to the two dance floors. Everyone was in a great mood, from the singing greeter to the very patient bartenders, and of course, all the people getting their groove on together. With more than a dozen DJs, and the option to embrace the indoor or outdoor stage, there was a steady house beat to keep those NYE vibes flowing all day long.
While quite chilly outside, guests braved the cold adorned in everything from booty shorts to parkas. Some of those who attended during the daytime hours got lucky enough to greet the sun in the brisk 40 degree weather. But even in adverse conditions and cozied up in layers the place was filled with smiling faces soaking in the sparse sun and fresh air.
For those of us who had a less than inspiring end to 2016 (and for those who fared well, alike), there is no better way to start off the new year than doing this thing that gives us energy and life, and bonds us with our peers.
Seattle’s Shameless Productions throws a number of underground parties and other supporting events throughout the year. In previous years they hosted Decibel events, and continue to create a unique space at Monkey Loft with things such as the summer’s Deck’d Out rooftop parties, which feature yoga in addition to Shameless Resident DJs spinning into the sunset. So keep an eye out for more of their events in the near future.
And we hope we see you out on the dance floor soon!
