Halloween may be on Monday, but for most of us this weekend will be full of spooky frights and dancing sprites. The PNW is loaded with Halloween events from Portland to Vancouver, there’s something for everyone. For those who choose to keep it closer to home, we’ve put together our favorite Halloween inspired mixes for your listening pleasure. Whether it’s a house party in costume or a night of video games, these mixes are sure to get you moving and in the spooky spirit.
RL Grime – Halloween V
Hot off the decks and just released is the 5th installment of the always popular RL Grime – Halloween mixtape. For the last 5 years, RL has been releasing his annual mixtape, and every year we can’t get enough. With an intro from Pharrell that goes into the Stranger Things theme song, we were hooked 2 minutes in. It’s clear Henry has been staying current with the latest trap bangers with this one. Drop this one and you’re guaranteed to have in instant dance party.
Side note: Hearing REZZ in an RL Grime mix made us a little happy inside… do we have a little crush? Maybe!
Featurecast – Halloween Mixtape
This one kinda came out of left field for us and WE LOVE IT! We’ve already been enjoying Featurcast’s Shambhala set that was released just 2 weeks ago. This one definitely goes a little harder with lots of Drum & Bass, Trap, and of course plenty of glitchy, Featurecast goodness. The description of this one really sums it up better than we ever could…
“From the depths of Featurecast HQ
Something sinister has stirred.
Play it loud and immerse yourself
In the most doomful mix you’ve heard.
A 30 minute one-off special
Of banging trick or treats,
Twisted sound bites, spooky themes
And terrifying beats.
The monster is unhinged,
Spread the fear, like and share.
Things are about to get very dark,
The faint hearted beware.”
Claptone – The Claptone Halloween Mix
A house classic from last year, this one is too good not to share again. The “mythical being” simply know as Claptone graced us with this monster 2 hour mix last year. Any fans of house music will tell you Claptone just has a way with putting together a set. The Claptone Mix is 2 hours of pure dance magic really perfect for any time of the year. Looking forward to having the masked mystery man in Portland later this December.
Figure – The Gravest Hits Mix
Zombies, Horror, Blood, Guts, Gore… These are just a few of the things that come to mind when we think of Figure. Aside for his popular Monsters Series which just saw it’s 7th installment last week. Josh Gard has put together 7 years of his favorite tracks to give us the Gravest Hits Mix. Literally LOADED with samples from horror movies and TV shows this mix screams Halloween. If you’re a fan of heavy bass then this is the mix for you. We’ve already listened to this one a couple more times than we can count, but another couple of times wont hurt.
Diplo – Diplo & Friends Halloween Special (2012)
This one may be 4 years old, but this pre-Jack U era Diplo mix is wonderful. This mix has got a little something for everyone and would be perfect for your Halloween house party. Sprinkled with a few remixes of nostalgic hits and plenty of club bangers, you’ll find it pretty hard to not want to dance and sing along. But let’s get real here, anyone who mixes in a track from Africa Bambaataa is focused solely on getting the dance floor groovin’.
We hope everyone has a great Halloween, full of laughs, memories, and a few scares (the good kind). We’ll have our hands full with lots of event coverage from our favorite Halloween events across the PNW. Stay tuned for lots of recaps, photos and stores to come next week! See you on the dance floor.
Important things happen in Pacific Northwest nightlife, and DMNW will send you alerts!
