If you happened to miss Claptone this year at What The Festival, you are in luck. He will be coming to Portland December 23, playing at newly renovated 45 East.
Claptone closed out one of the main stages at this summer’s festival to a well-received audience. With so many people saying it was their favorite set of the weekend, we are excited to see what he has in store for us in a more intimate setting.
Claptone is a DJ from Berlin, Germany. In 2015 he released a full length album titled, Charmer, after releasing a number of EPs. Claptone has collaborated with Tenor, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and The Boxer Rebellion. In a 2015 interview he talks about his love of collaborations:
“I love collaborations because they are unpredictable and they do have their own magic. When stars align you are able to preserve that special moment when two creative worlds collide and ignite each other like a supernova.”
With Halloween coming up, we thought it was fitting to highlight an artist that is always under a mask. In a interview with DJ Mag he was asked why he wears the gold beaked mask, and he explained that everyone wears a mask. He went onto to say:
“The single purpose of being Claptone is to touch people. Form and function melt when Claptone plays his sets, bright and dark, angry and warm-hearted, happy and sad, calm and outrageous. If you open your heart you can feel it: Claptone deals in emotions.”
Like many DJs that wear masks, he is able to let the music speak for its self. We are looking forward to hear what his music has to say at 45 East in December. To stay up to date on the event check out the event Facebook page and make sure to grab your tickets.
