Back in February when SFX Entertainment filed for bankruptcy, Beatport swore to us that things were “business as usual” for them. As much as we’d hoped that were true, they’ve clearly been busy planning to shut down every part of their company except for their original venture, the Beatport store. So as we carry on through what very well may be the bubble bursting, we’re left with only three gifts from SFXE: Tomorrowland Belgium, Tomorrowland Brazil, and the Beatport store… for now.
Beatport made the announcement in a blog post on their website, stating that all services except the store will shut down as of May 13, 2016. They also share that the previous plan for an auction will be put on hold, but they will consider offers for Beatport as they come in. A portion of their explanation is below, you can read the rest here.
“We have learned through this process however, that in our effort to be so many different things, we lost focus on bringing the best possible service and capabilities to our most loyal customers: the DJ community. As such, we have determined to invest in what is most important to our business and our customers, rather than adding yet another choice to a sea of streaming services.”
With that, it’s time to say “Rest in Peace” to Beatport’s streaming service, mobile-app, video streaming, and even their news vertical. We knew that the company was facing challenges, be we didn’t think that its next move would be quite so drastic. In any case, we wish Beatport all the luck in maintaining their flagship service. Perhaps there’s hope for future endeavors if they get the results they want from a newly-focused Beatport.
Were you a user of any of Beatport’s other services? Are you going to miss them when they disappear?
