In a whirlwind, Grammy-nominated ZHU (Mind of a Genius Records) announced dates for his upcoming Neon City tour and the next day dropped a music video for a fresh new single. What does this mean for ZHU in 2016?
ZHU lets his music speak for itself. Remaining anonymous at first to be judged only by his music, ZHU has revealed much more to us in the short two years we’ve known him. Since being nominated for a Grammy in 2015, he has scheduled 19 shows in 18 cities this spring. The mad producer/DJ we now know as San Francisco-native Steven Zhu (and not Skrillex) starts his 2016 tour with both Coachellas, and then on to the PNW in April.
The music has clearly spoken, and our humble corner of the continent is selling out shows faster than anyone. Seattle sold out in a day (keep your fingers crossed for a venue change and more tickets becoming available), and Vancouver ran out of tickets by day two. The Portland show still has tickets available, but don’t expect those to last much longer. We can make a fairly confident bet that ZHU has much more in store for us this year than we can imagine.
Released shortly after the tour announcement, a music video for a new single In the Morning has dropped from what we are hoping is a shiny new EP for 2016. ZHU is more than just another phantom producer and masking-wearing DJ. The focus is on the songs and the response. ZHU is art.
