Tenth Degree: Going Underground With Losco in Portland (Event Review)

When it became a new year, a new scene in Portland began to take shape. Tenth Degree & Booms and Claps took to the underground to give the Rose City a new outlet to catch tunes. If you’re tired of the same old stuff, or looking for a new adventure then look no further. With Tenth Degree’s mission of bringing underground beats to the forefront in the city, we were not disappointed hearing some great future beats, juke and plenty of bass Saturday night.

Walking into the two-story Liquor Store for the first time we felt at ease, greeted by a super friendly staff and top-notch drinks to get our night started. As we entered the bottom level where the music was held we could hardly contain our excitement as it seemed like we were walking down to an old speakeasy. The bottom level had an old rustic vibe with vintage artwork hanging from the walls and a low-lit ceiling that ran from the front of the stage to back bar area. The crowd didn’t take long to arrive, 30 minutes after Knate Pha$er began the opening set the Liquor Store’s dance floor was full.

Now to the great aspects of the show: The music and vibes. If you were expecting a evening of trance then you were left hanging, we left the trance at home and brought the bass. Yes, plenty of bass, with juke and future beats from start to finish, and never hearing a mainstream song unless it came from a remixed rap track. All the while, we had the rattling of the bottom level that could be felt all the way out to the street. Swaying the crowd on the dance floor in almost one coordinated movement until closing out with the headlining duo (Tom & Andy) from LOSCO.
