2015 has certainly proven to be the year of electronic dance music. From Kaskade’s record breaking crowd at Coachella, to Kygo being the first artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. What once was believed to be something reserved for the underground has become the fastest growing genre of music over the past 12 months.
We’ve recently expanded our base and added two new writers in British Columbia and couldn’t be more excited to be more involved in the BC scene. It seems fitting that British Columbia also saw quite the breakthrough year in the dance music scene. Without a doubt, the bass music scene is alive and flourishing, and we can only expect to continue to see big names and amazing festivals come from our neighbors up north.
This year we managed to make it to quite a few of those events including Shambhala and FVDED in the Park. Unfortunately, there are only so many of us. But with the help of local photographer, Joffrey Middleton-Hope, we take a look back on some of British Columbia’s best nights. The following features photos, and words from Joffrey as he shows us the incredibly vibrant, and growing dance music scene.
British Columbia is fast becoming a west coast hub for outdoor music festivals. The city (Vancouver) has been taking heat while changing accordingly to follow a new norm, the bass scene is here to stay. The first two images are from Bass Coast, located in Merritt, BC.

Nestled deep in a forest valley, Bass Coast is home to some of the most beautiful stages and feature varying acts of DJs and producers collaborating with dance troupes from BC and abroad. Typically not know for their “big name” line-up, Bass Coast is without a doubt a festival in it’s purest form, exposing some of the underground scene’s best artists.
