It’s no secret that the crew at Dance Music Northwest absolutely loves funk-inspired bass music. You can’t grow up listening to Parliament and Funkadelic and not long for those sultry tones, modernized with huge kick drums and dirty bass lines. Fortunately we don’t have to, as there’s a wave of these artists currently enjoying fame. One of our favorites? Big Gigantic.
The last time Big Gigantic came to Showbox SODO, we had a blast. Many of us that are neck deep in the EDM world are so used to DJs commanding the stage, it can be jarring to remember just how much better live instruments are. Nobody is saying that all EDM acts should perform live, but that they don’t is what makes Big Gigantic so particularly electrifying. The energy is real, the pace is totally different, and the saxophone is oh-so-silky-smooth.
There are lots of options for your Friday night tonight, but as the glitched-out electro funk fans we are we have to say—go to this show. If you like GriZ, Pretty Lights, any funk from 1970-1989, or even you secret geeks who dive into the Kenny G backlog when you’re down, you’ll love Big Gigantic. And even better, they’re joined by The Floozies. If you don’t know them, imagine Big Gigantic but replace saxophone with guitar. This is not a show to miss.
