Tomorrow, six local DJs will come together to stoke the crowd and compete in the Beat Battle in Ballard at Substation Nightclub. The battle will be hosted and judged by DJ Flave, and the winner gets a cash prize, plus a 30-minute set on c89.5.
The DJs competing are: monroe (Ross Monroe), Braxxus (Braxston Taylor), Boeretta (Brenden Ostbo), Zeekenex (Toby Z Froelich), FXL (Trevor Weidenbacher), and AO (Anthony Osnaya), representing local talent from Olympia to Bellingham.
Put on by Mind at Large and 215 Productions, this competition is a special event presented by Wonderground, a side project established by resident Stage DJs Jordan Stengrund, Kenny Gunderson, and Will Hyde.
Wonderground was created to be a night focused more on “the music and the vibes and feels” of the guests, and less about a typical “club scene,” Jordan explained. The trio is hoping to give local artists a boost and highlight hidden talent.
“The Beat Battle in Ballard is our way of getting fresh local DJs involved who may have never had a chance to show what they can do, with a chance to appear on [DJ] Flave’s radio show The Foreplay,” – Kenny Gunderson.
If you can pull yourself away from Decibel Festival, this is place to be this Saturday. Oh! And the dress code is lax, while encouraging people to bring their LED gloves, hoops: whatever makes you, you!
