One of our favorite aspects of dance music is how commonplace remixes of artists work are throughout the scene. You can find many major dance music tunes remixed into various genres from major and underground artists alike, on a regular basis. Whether it’s a single, an EP of remixes of one song, or an entire remix album, the art of the remix has successfully made it’s way into the heart of dance music.
We’ve already been treated to a few great remix albums this year, with Bassnectar, Zomboy, and The Glitch Mob all putting out follow-up remix works to their highly successful 2014 albums. History is also littered with quality remix albums of different styles and genres. Michael Jackson’s Blood on the Dancefloor is the best-selling remix album of all time, while Linkin Park’s Reanimation brought the old-school Run-DMC vs. Aerosmith concept into thte 21st Century.
Hip-hop legend Notorious B.I.G. has a couple of great works to add to his incredible list. The notorious xx, a mash-up album combining some of Biggie’s greatest hit with the brilliant work of xx, was produced by Wait What, also known as Charlie Kubal in 2010. That, along with Duets: The Final Chapter, a collection of posthumous collaborations and remixes featuring Biggie and many of hip-hops top artists, are two great examples of unique takes on remix albums that make us dream about other possibilities.
Reminiscing over great remixes, and dreaming up potential combinations, is a favorite past-time of many in the dance music community, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We came up with five albums, of varying genres, that deserve to be remixed in some fashion. Whether by a single artist, or as a compilation, these works would make for great remix material, and we want to see what the EDM community could create with these albums at their disposal.
