Many of us were shocked when Club Volume announced its final night on Facebook last week. The embattled dance club was, until recently, a bastion for 18+ shows and the kind of relaxed environment not found at other Seattle venues. Speculation has flown about the reasons behind the closure, and while we won’t indulge that here, the question is fresh in the minds of EDM fans who now have one less nightlife destination.
Dance Music Northwest reached out to the senior staff at Volume, to give them an opportunity to speak to their fans and put to rest the speculation. Club alums Chuck Wang and Raheem Ramezanzadeh both had heartfelt statements for Volume patrons, which you can read in their entirety below.
[pullquote]”In terms of nightlife industry, I think that was the essence of Volume, we gave chances to new people.” – Raheem Ramezanzadeh[/pullquote]The guys spend most of their statements characterizing Volume as the nightclub that didn’t discriminate, a place that offered opportunity to anyone with passion for dance music. According to Chuck the club flirted with disaster multiple times, to the point that “I really didn’t know if there was anything else I could do to bring our Friday nights to life.” Despite that difficulty, Volume continued to bring in major artists and open doors. Big-name artists like Krewella, Martin Solveig, Deorro, Zomboy, Brillz, and more have graced the electric Volume stage.
The statements also address some of the negativity surrounding Volume’s final few weeks. “Many of us who support and/or work for companies will only speak highly of our own individual team/venue which at times create negative, hostile comments about one another; I understand that competition is undeniable and that it also plays a vital role in becoming better but I strongly believe that negativity shouldn’t be the way to go about it. This community is small and we are all in it because of our love of music, clubbing, and people. We all want Seattle to grow, to do so we should work together and support each other.”
