Well the day is finally here. It’s been long rumored that Zedd was collaborating with Selena Gomez and now the release has arrived with I Want You To Know. Zedd has produced some incredible tracks and remixes in his time and has had some amazing vocalists grace his productions. This new track that he has put out does that, sort of. If you were to take the lyrics away, this would be a pretty amazing track. Right off the bat with the first rhyme scheme, we feel as though the lyricist is being vastly overpaid. This is not an attack on Selena’s vocals. Nothing of the likes of Zoe Johnston, Aruna, or Fischer, but pretty decent and we can’t fault her for that.
This track reminds us of a Bo Burnham song that pokes fun at the formulaic way pop music is produced, entitled Repeat Stuff. If you take the time to listen to that track, you may get a bit of a chuckle when compared side-by-side to Zedd and Selena Gomez. Below we have included a link to both of the tracks, and we will let you be the judge of that idea.
Overall, we are huge fans of Zedd, but we also think this habit of having collaborations with bubble gum pop stars could leave a huge scar on his catalog of incredible productions. But we want to hear from you! Tell us what you think. Has Zedd fallen into the corporate pop factory production league or are we being too harsh?
