After cancelling his performance at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards due to health concerns, Calvin Harris won the Best Electronic Artist award from the EMA’s this last Sunday. He beat out tough contenders Afrojack, Avicii, David Guetta and Hardwell in fan votes for the top prize. On the heels of his latest album release, Motion, the highest-paid DJ in the world is rounding off 2014 with quite a bang. Last month, DJ Mag ranked the Scottish DJ and producer No. 11 on their controversial Top 100 DJs list.
While we here at Dance Music Northwest tend to be very wary of dance music awards and rankings, the success and impact Calvin has had in bringing EDM into the mainstream is undeniable. You couldn’t turn on the radio this past summer without hearing his catchy track Summer blare from your speakers.
Fresh off the win at the EMAs, Calvin Harris released the music video for his latest single Outside today. The track is a heavy pop-influenced and Top 40-bound collaboration with Ellie Goulding.
