RL Grime always seems to come alive right around Halloween. His ominous, banging trap sound always fits the atmosphere this time of year. Even the producer’s name is a play on RL Stine, the legendary author of the spooky Goosebumps series. For the past two years, RL Grime has released a Halloween mix, and to our contentment, the New York-based producer announced that he will release his 2014 Halloween mix on October 30th! To go along with the fresh new mix, RL Grime is preparing to release his debut full length album in November, entitled Void. Just yesterday, RL helped foreshadowthe vibe of the album by dropping his new track Scylla.
Back in July, RL Grime showed us why he is still the gold standard in the trap game by releasing the first track off of his new album, Core. Core‘s music video is also pretty spectacular, as it shows what would happen if helicopters infiltrated the Tron grid. RL Grime gave us a second taste of his new album with Reminder, showcasing him out of his element. It’s deep, slow and accompanied by the sexy and emotional vocals of How To Dress Well.
Scylla, Void‘s third featured song, boasts RL Grime returning to the sound we’ve grown so accustomed to. Scylla has plenty of RL’s signature 808s and french horns, a sound that make his production so great. Some might say the track is a bit predictable because it is exactly what you’d expect from RL Grime. However, it’s hard to argue with the production quality and we at Dance Music Northwest are extremely excited to see what Henry Steinway has in store for his LP debut.
To listen to Scylla, just follow the SoundCloud link. You can also preorder Void on iTunes now. While we anxiously await Void‘s release, just remember the RL Grime’s 2014 Halloween Mix will be available on October 30th. It might even feature some unreleased songs from the new album!
