Mark Bell dies

News

Electronic Dance Music Influence, Mark Bell, Dies

Mark Bell made up half of the British electronic dance music band LFO ( not to be confused with the American group that went by LFO) . The group was formed in the late 80’s, and was originally made up of Mark Bell and Gez Varley. They were pioneers of bass-heavy techno as well as acid house music well into the mid 90’s. In 1996, Gez Varley left the group, leaving Mark Bell to continue his career alone under the name LFO. Earlier this month, Mark Bell passed away. His label Warp Records announced:

It’s with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mark Bell of LFO who died last week from complications after an operation. Mark’s family & friends request privacy at this difficult time. -Warp Records

Along with his work as LFO, Mark Bell was also well known for his production work with artists like Björk and Depeche Mode. Bell worked with Björk for the first time in 1997 and numerous other times up until 2011. Some of Bell’s best known productions were on Björk’s Homogenic album and Depeche Mode’s album Exciter. The influence Bell had on these artists, as well as in the music industry, will be greatly missed.

When you get a chance, take a look one of many other British artists who have had success recently. In the meantime, tell us what you thought of LFO and Mark Bell’s music. What track had the biggest impact on you personally?
