Dirty South is pretty well known to the devotees to house music, but is by no means a main stage mainstay. That needs to (and will) change after the release of his next project. Dirty South, or Dragan Roganović, has redefined what it means to be a cross-platform artist.
It all began a while ago when he held residencies at a couple of night clubs in Las Vegas. While at one he was told to leave the decks because the music he was playing wasn’t commercial enough for the crowd. According to Dragan, he wasn’t even playing any underground or fringe music that would justify it. Then a local DJ came on the decks and started spinning Top-40.
This unfortunate scenario has payed off for both Dirty South and his fans. Tucked away in a studio in a small borough of Los Angeles known as Culver City, Dragan began work on a new album. Culver City is where all the production studios are in the city of angels. As he developed his new album, he also began to fall in love with the art of film.
“I bought a camera. I just wanted to understand what makes people tick—the images and the music together. You watch something and it makes you feel something. Why?”
While making the album he noticed an accidental trend of his music that he felt was telling a love story.
“It’s a little twisted but it’s a love story. I think subliminally I was making it anyway.”
It was something that he envisioned in a movie, but the movie had not yet been made. With some persuading he managed to convince his managers to get a crew together to film a short film inspired from his own work. That short film is With You, and is available as of September 23rd, 2014. This has made us at Dance Music Northwest so excited that we’re going to stay up to watch the movie when it is released at midnight.
From the looks of the trailer, this movie has so many elements to it, making it hard to describe. It’s a love story obviously, but it doesn’t look like the same old love stories that we are fed by major motion picture companies. You can tell that Dragan had complete control of the direction of the film. This is sure to become a cult classic, or at least a Raver classic as we have come to dub it.
By the way, Dragan is the one who wrote the script and he is also the director of the film. This will actually make him a full on renaissance man. Now his resume will consist of DJ, Producer, Writer, & Director.

From what we gather from the media about this short film is that it is going to be a cross of “Drive” and “Garden State” meets a Shakespearian tragedy. It is bound to have many emotional moments in it since Dragan says that it is a little bit twisted. It also looks cinematically amazing given what has already been released. Below is the music video for his newest single from the album set to release in November called “Tunnel Vision” and if you are not hooked now, you may be just a simple philistine.

The best part about this is that it is being released on iTunes for just 3 dollars. Are you really not going to buy this because you don’t have 3 bucks? If it turns out to be not what you thought, you just spent less than what it costs to park in downtown Seattle for an hour. You may remember when Porter Robinson came to town and gave us his “Worlds” tour. Well this may be way better because we can watch it again and again. If you downloaded the short film from iTunes, tell us how you feel.
