Sam Smith has announced via Twitter that he will not be performing tonight at Kool Haus in Toronto.
I am truly so upset Toronto. I promise I'll make it up to every single one of you x

The 22 yr. old soul singer is reportedly battling tonsillitis, which is usually brought on by a viral or bacterial infection and results in swollen tonsils, painfully tender lymph nodes, loss of voice, and fever-like symptoms. Depending on the severity of his infection, the Latch and Stay With Me star may not be able to perform at his upcoming shows this week in Chicago, Vancouver, B.C. and at The Paramount in Seattle this Thursday. Clinical treatment such as antibiotics will usually yield relief from tonsillitis symptoms within three days. However if it is a chronic condition, surgery to remove the tonsils is sometimes necessary. We certainly hope surgery is not in the books as he has a pretty dense tour schedule before he returns to the UK for a bit, having just sold out his In The Lonely Hour tour in every city.
We’re crossing our fingers that Sam will be able to make his Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle shows, but don’t sweat it if he’s still recovering. We’re confident he’ll be doing a make-up show for Toronto in the near future, considering he genuinely has the best interest of his fans at heart. Just look at this tweet response to one of his fans, ineffably endearing.
I read your letter @maudlinbear Thank you so much for reminding me why I do what I do. I adore you and never doubt yourself. You are perfect

While we sit tight for updates on Sam’s health, we hope this video warms your heart. Rain or shine, rest assured that us fans will join in song, just like these New Yorkers transiting home from his show in Manhattan this past Friday night. Enjoy.
