Music collaboration service Splice is now available to the public, after being a private, invite-only beta for the last 10 months. Splice is a cloud-based platform that helps artists save, share, collaborate, and remix tracks supporting Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic X. It allows you to follow revisions and sort through past versions of your work while allowing producers to collaborate more easily without having to manually transfer files.
Let’s imagine a collab of Deadmau5 and Hardwell. Mr. Mau5 notices that after a day or two of work, all of his techno goodness has been replaced with booming big room, and he wonders how it happened. With Splice, a downloadable client for your computer, he can view the entire revision history to see exactly when and how any changes were made to his project.
Following the public beta release, Splice announced a new feature- the ‘DNA Player’, making it even easier for collaborators to work in harmony. The DNA Player allows you to view each aspect of the track, how it was built, artist notes, and even playback specific channels within the browser. This means that now fans can follow their favorite artist in every step of creating their tracks.
In a press release, Splice co-founder Steve Martocci said, “We built a platform that allows musicians to focus solely on the creative process without interruption and are excited to open up the beta to all musicians today.” He also told us, “We’re thrilled to see music veterans, alongside up-and-coming artists, work with us in different capacities to bring the industry up to speed with technology.” We are too!
