Toronto-based producer/DJ Hunter Siegel is at it again, releasing the preview to two more tracks that will be available in full later this month. The #DarkPLUR ambassador has had a busy year, releasing his first original tune, Waiting Up, and collaborating with fellow Canadians Zeds Dead on house banger LOUD!. Siegel has released a slew of remixes as well, working with a variety of tracks from DVBBS’ Raveology to Galantis’ Friends (Hard Times). The upcoming release is in the form of a two-track EP from Steve Angello’s Size Records, which will be available for purchase on September 22nd.
The first tune on the EP, the second original track from Siegel, is entitled New School Renegade. It’s the deep house sound we’ve become accustomed to from Siegel, with an added edge and intensity that had been missing from past productions. Previous tracks like Waiting Up and the Friends (Hard Times) remix had a slower pace and more intimate feel. New School Renegade features those qualities as well, but with a heavy energy that is a welcome addition to the Siegel catalog of tunes, expanding his signature sound in an exciting direction.
The second track, Time to Blackout, is a collab with house music legend Todd Terry and is everything we’ve come to expect from Siegel, with a dash of old-school. Siegel has described his sound as ‘retro-future’ and there may be no better musical depiction of that than Time to Blackout. The tech house tune does it all without doing too much, as the obvious attention to detail throughout the track keeps the momentum going while still changing up the pace and style throughout.
