I’m all for a new talent, especially one that is spewing mystery and ambiguity. With only a handful of followers on Soundcloud, and virtually a paragraph of material on this guy (trust me, I’ve hunted the depths of the internet) Nudist takes dream pop to a new level. Nudist is just another piece of evidence that UK artists are a very forward-thinking, groundbreaking breed of musician.
Rumor has it, Nudist grew up without parents on the streets of Brazil. A sad story turned inspiring, he was taken in by a street team of Brazilian drummers who performed around the country. If that isn’t rad enough, he saved up to buy a very prehistoric synth and laptop, on which he continued to perform for tourists and eventually clubs. For a fresh start, he relocated to England where he continues to make music and hang out with his cat.
His first EP, Favelas, is a fabulous compilation of robust beats, magical sliced vocals, and soulful electronica. Perfect for the summer heat wave. Nudist is a very suitable name for this artist, given the fact that these tunes will make you want to take off all of your clothes and groove on sandy beaches under a setting sun.
Nudist will certainly be one to watch out for. There’s no doubt he’s making his way on the radar. Favelas makes a statement of this man’s definite talent, expressive abilities, and is just the beginning of a new vibrant craft.
