Internet super-store Amazon is launching a music streaming service similar to Spotify, Beats, and more. Prime Music offers more than a million songs to stream for Amazon members with a Prime account. Amazon currently have confirmed deals with both Sony and Warner Music, but are yet to work out a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG), the largest music corporation in the world. Prime Music is supported on Kindle Fire, iOS and Android devices, PCs and Macs, and has offline streaming available.
There are no playback restrictions and the exclusion of ads is also a bonus with Prime Music. They have hundreds of pre-made playlists and, despite no deal with UMG, an impressive catalog of artists. The fact that the cost of an Amazon Prime membership isn’t effected by the inclusion of Prime Music puts the already great off of a prime membership even better. For $99 a year, the more than 20 million current subscribers to Amazon Prime get free two-day shipping and streaming access to a huge selection of movies, television shows, eBooks, and music.
This move comes shortly after Apple bought out Beats Music for a hefty $3.2 billion. The move isn’t a huge surprise, as Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine has been a partner of Apple and iTunes for more than a decade. Beats skyrocketed into success after being created in 2006, quickly becoming the headphones of choice for athletes, musicians, and millions of others around the world.
