Joel Zimmerman, better know as Deadmau5, has a knack for being, well, a bit of a troll at times. His vitriol on Twitter tends to elevate him to legend status and it’s no secret that he always makes his coffee run guests pay for the coffee. Put what you know about the Mau5 aside for a second and watch this video of him hearing the vocalist for The Veldt for the first time. What’s that we see at about 0:40? Is that a genuine SMILE?! Oh my goodness, it is! It’s amazing to see the usual laid-back Joel have such a reaction to what he’s hearing. Watching his face change from doubt to excitement about the vocals is a delightful surprise. Fear not, there is a slight amount of snark in the video so we know it’s really Joel.
At Dance Music Northwest we frequently are exposed to new tracks that get our hearts racing or find juicy tidbits about our favorite artists that are surprising, but seeing him react to hearing The Veldt like this is something truly out of left field.
