Melbourne based producer, Cheshire Music, is back again to deliver us a 10-track album entitled Simply Lifted, packed with soulful, unique, diverse music that we just want to dance the night away to. Several tracks elegantly progress from funk, soul, hip hop, or even jazz to bass heavy dance floor rhythms with superbly mashed up samples. The glitchy, sometimes psychedelic vibe proves that this talented producer would fit well at any festival worth its salt.
Elements of his vibe are certainly akin to Glitch Mob, Gramatic, or Pretty Lights but Cheshire shines through in a different way, bringing us a special kind of Future Funk. If there’s one kind of music that we think can get anyone dancing, its funk. And what a great way to update the genre with the sounds of Simply Lifted.
While each track on Simply Lifted has something unique to offer, we’d have to say our two favorites are Bird Song and the title track Simply Lifted. The intro track, Bird Song feat. Blunt Instrument, starts with jazzy drums, a chirping bird, and some ambient glitch. It builds to a short monologue, at the end of which the beat drops and everything gets warped into this perfect funky package, gracefully combining the aforementioned elements. Simply Lifted ft. Crazy Daylight is a powerhouse of a song with a soulful vocals section, beautiful 80s synth, and wailing saxophone – all glitched to perfection. We can safely say that this release from Adapted Records is some of the most refreshing music we have heard in a long time.
