With Spring Break in session it certainly brought out the masses this past Saturday night in Portland. As the night was just beginning, a line had already started to form outside the Whiskey Bar and the music inside was blaring. Only a handful of tickets were left at the door and we could see patrons anxiously awaiting to get in. As we entered, local DJ Rubin Sarafinchan was getting the crowd warmed up for what was going to be one heck of an evening.
The overall vibe from the crowd was already on point and the venue was starting to fill rather quickly. Within an hour or so of opening, Whiskey Bar was near capacity as we shoveled our way through the myriad of dancing people to venture towards the open areas. The local known as the “PDX Trance King,” Eddie Pitzul took the stage mid-evening for what we can rightly say was one of his best performances to date. Not a soul in sight wasn’t enjoying the harmonious tunes that were blasting through the speakers. If our ears were to be ringing later we simply did not care.
In anticipation for the headliner, we made our way through the crowd of enthusiastic faces patiently watching at the front of the room. An anxious crowd couldn’t wait for this epic moment to arrive and all went manic as soon as Audien came on the decks. At the bright young age of 22, Audien (aka Nate Rathbun) is no stranger to the electronic music scene. Starting his music career out in 2008, he worked diligently to perfect his craft, by 17 sending out his music to producers and various labels.
It didn’t take long for Audien to get noticed and receive praise for his unique trance sound. Flash forward a few years and Audien is now playing to sold-out crowds and has even changed pace with his music, adding progressive house beats that truly make him stand above the rest. His newest track Elysium was music to our ears Saturday, as it felt like a surefire mix of both house and trance that we couldn’t help but bounce along to.
At the end of the night we didn’t want it to end. The different clashes of music, energy from the crowd, and overall good times were enough to keep us going until dawn. Needless to say, we can’t wait until Audien makes another appearance in Portland!
