It’s festival season, and there are so many to choose from! After our first feature of festivals focused on the Northwest, we decided to bring you some festivals that are worth your expenses and vacation time outside of our own region. This feature focuses on the middle of the U.S., as well as Canada. If you are looking to explore new areas and meet new people, one of these festivals might be perfect for you! We recommend you reserve a spot on your bucket list for some of these in the near future. In no specific order, here are our top picks for Mid-region North American festivals:
1. Boonstock Music Festival – August 1-3
South Okanagan Valley – Penticton, BC
Originally held in Gibbons, Alberta for several years, this year the festival has a new home in Penticton, British Columbia after many citizens in Gibbons complained of noise and felt unsafe from the vibes of the festival. Since it’s formation, the lineups have vastly improved over the last couple of years. This festival offers the best of both worlds: widely popular rock bands like Godsmack, Sublime with Rome, Korn, A Perfect Circle and many others on the main stage, with a dance tent not far away. The dance tent has seen the likes of Knife Party, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, Kill the Noise, Eric Prydz, Bingo Players and many others.
This year, the new location will boast a private beach for some wild parties. There will be on-site camping on the festival grounds with the venue a short walk away. This year’s lineup includes Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, City & Colour, AWOLNATION, Armin Van Buuren, Krewella, Zeds Dead, A-Trak and dozens of other acts of all genres.
Ticket prices start at $250 for a 3-day GA festival pass or $350 for Advance VIP. This is one of the friendly festivals that will allow you to pay for your ticket in monthly payments if you are short on cash. All tickets come in the form of RFID wristbands that can be scanned for easy access into the festival. The downside to the festival is camping is $75 for GA and $150 for VIP Camping that’s closer to the festival grounds is priced on top of your ticket. Each person in your vehicle has to pay the camping fee as well, so beware on that end of it.
