As you all may have noticed today, Facebook and Twitter has been awash with photos, video, and status updates following Lucky 2014. From Diplo and DJ Snake’s B2B set, to the announcement that we’re getting Above & Beyond, Bassnectar, Zedd, and Krewella at Paradiso, there was plenty to talk about. But what we may not have known is that all this day-after chatter is actually indicative of a larger trend.
Online ticket vendor Eventbrite recently conducted a study that found that of all music fans, the ones within the EDM community were by far the most active on social media. Parsing through over 70 million social media posts made by dance music fans in 2013, it demonstrates firsthand the power our collective voice has in this digital age. Some of the highlights from the study include:
- EDM fans tweet almost 11 times as often as the average user.
- Those same fans talk about events and concerts 30% more than fans of other types of music.
- EDM fans are overwhelmingly positive on social media, with 40% of their conversations being about “loving the genre” and “driving greater discovery of music” among other things.
