[numblock num=”7″ style=”3″]Local Seattle artist, DJ Flave brought his unique style down I-5 to Portland’s Fez Ballroom on Saturday February 22nd for another memorable Housed Saturday. [/numblock]
Fez Ballroom’s Housed Saturday events has been a welcome addition to the Portland nightlife scene which has seen troubling closures in recent months. This night was no exception and there’s no doubt that the popularity of the event and Fez Ballroom in general will grow as they continue to bring in awesome talent. For example, one past act was Johnny Monsoon who recently opened for Above and Beyond in Seattle at their much anticipated return after the unfortunate events at Resolution.
After Portland’s DJ Klyde Drexler got the house energized, Flave took the stage around midnight to an elated crowd. His blend of house and old-school hip hop tracks was sure to have something for everyone. You could see how people responded to the different genres of music. At one point, there was sudden change to more of the old-school hip hop such as the classic House of Pain’s – Jump Around, which had everyone following cue. This was a “Housed” event however, so the music reverted to tracks more in line with the event’s namesake.
The house itself had room to move as people came and went throughout the night. It was a welcome change from having to fight through people to use the restroom or get a refreshment. There was true VIP seating with comfy couches and bottle service available, while of course the center stage and dance floor was the focus of the room. The lighting was a little brighter compared to other clubs and perhaps it made some people more self-conscious as not everyone was going as hard as might be expected. It was also a more diverse crowd and some were there for more of the lounge experience.
The diversity and setting however make Fez’s events different from other Portland events and really makes for a special experience akin to a relaxed, Vegas-like experience without the outrageous prices where everyone can have a great time. Because of this, we certainly look forward to what future artists will grace Portland’s presence at Fez Ballroom and hope to see its popularity grow further!
