David Guetta Falls Short In Remix For Avicii’s ‘Addicted To You’

Avicii’s True was an album that revolutionized the world of dance music following its controversial debut at Ultra Music Festival Miami last year. A crowd that was expecting a typical big room festival set was instead given an electro-country dream, that at the time wasn’t fully appreciated the way it deserved to be. Since then Wake Me Up has taken over dance floors, and the general consensus is that Avicii managed to produce something truly special.

This is why we’re more than just a little disappointed in David Guetta’s remix of Addicted To You. Kicking off with all the instrumentals of the original, the build is almost identical. As we approach the drop, all the big room elements that crowd at Ultra longed for last March start to appear. Finally, it falls into a progression that could have been copy-pasted from any number of generic Top 100 Beatport tracks. Following his intriguing collaboration with Skylar Grey for Shot Me Down, we had high hopes for Guetta moving past the festival-drop phase of his career. Alas, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

With this Addicted To You remix, we get conflicting ideologies: On one side we have Avicii’s genre-bending boldness, on the other David Guetta’s vanilla big room. There’s no question that this remix will make the mainstage rounds this summer, but the real question we should be asking is if we as a music community even want this anymore.
