Say hello to your weekly musical paradox. Can something be mellow, yet entirely dance-able at the same time? Bonobo proves that pigs can fly by remixing Henri Texier’s “Les LeBas” and turning it into a smooth, solid groove. Henri Texier is a master of percussion. As a French Jazz Double bassist, his original works are impeccably diverse and he is in no way a stranger to eclectic sound palettes. He taught himself the works of music and became well known in the 1960’s and sailed on smoothly in the world of Jazz through the 80’s.
The original “Les LeBas” is a sensational and circular tidal wave of percussion, bass, and vocals. Texier does a fabulous job of dropping singular elements in and out of the tune making this quite a work of art. Bonobo has a more modern approach to “Les LeBas,” but still manages to encompass the nature of the original. He adds more percussion that charges the tune while an addition of some synth makes it more conventional.
We say get a little groovy with it, shake it out, and bring back the jazz hands.
