After a gold record, over 800,000 fans on Facebook, and headlining massive festivals across the globe, Headhunterz has officially announced his retirement from hardstyle. In just a few short years, the Dutch producer became an icon of the genre, leading the way for its spread worldwide. After thanking his fans for all their support, a visibly choked up Headhunterz took to his Facebook, confessing a desire to “follow his dreams” and “start from a blank slate” as he branches out in a different musical direction.
Hardstyle will dearly miss the legend, and it remains to be seen where his music will go next (or even what his set at Foundation Nightclub in April will be like). Reactions from his fans have ranged from sheer outrage to supportive love, as a stunned community tries to process the news. Regardless, we’ll all be waiting to see what he does next as he starts releasing tracks in something other than 150 bpm. Check out the full announcement below, and grab your tickets to his show at Foundation over this way.
