Morgan Page isn’t a stranger to house beats and beautiful vocals. You might even say the sound has made his career, along with greats like Kaskade. Tracks like The Longest Road and In The Air make an impact because they focus on telling a beautiful story. These tracks have been remixed time and time again into all types of music for this very reason. The same is true with Icona Pop’s Just Another Night. The vocal-driven tale of lost love and jealous longing already makes mid-set festival rounds. Now remixes have been officially released by Page and Lucky Date.

The verses and buildups in the track are gorgeous, reminiscent of Sultan & Ned Shepard’s Locked Out Of Heaven remix. Pulsing, bubbly synths and piano chord stabs let the original track’s gorgeous vocal arrangement speak for itself. It’s a lush re-imagining that is filled with the kind of relentless drive Morgan Page is known for. Then the drop arrives. We’ve noticed that lately Page has gravitated toward a stabby, offbeat shuffle groove. That sound is in full force here. While we’re not particular fans of this style, the sound made many appearances on the MPP3D Tour. People seemed to like it, so who are we to judge?
Overall the track can be considered a win, even if we would have preferred to see it go a more classic Page route. Sometimes a return to your roots is the best way to reinvigorate your sound.
Lucky Date’s Just Another Night remix, on the other hand, suffers no kind of identity crisis. From the beginning it is unapologetically minor key, dense, and in a word – epic. The basic chord progression has been stripped away to leave almost nothing but the vocal. Throughout the remix, the Just Another Night vocal is subtly tweaked and gets knocked about, leading up to an intense drop. Huge stabbing metallic synths beat against electro growls and chirping sirens. This track is unabashed EDM – bass heavy, snarling, dirty, thrilling.
Both remixes make excellent use of the original track’s unforgettable vocal. While released publicly on Soundcloud just yesterday, they are part of a full Just Another Night remix EP. Also released on the EP are remixes by Marcus Schossow, DubVision, Anthony Attalla, CaPa, Faustix & Imanos, and Alex Young. You can find the whole EP here!
