When we think of Drum & Bass, we think of hard-hitting, fast-paced breakbeats accompanied by all sorts of sounds ranging from industrial to futuristic. Our favorite genre tempoed at 160-180 BPM, emerged around the time of the mid-1990’s in England. Ever since then, we have been shuffling, candy-stomping, and gloving to DnB. Fast forward to 2012 where Submatik arises from Germany and Belgium to bring the most soothing Bass we’ve heard in a long time. Their latest EP, Gelassenheit, is German for the feeling of calmness and collectedness that will wash over you as you emerge yourself in the funky, jazz-infused tracks of the release. Distinct in musical character and rich of orchestrated liquid DnB, Submatik hits home with a perfect start to 2014. The EP as a whole is beautifully addicting and entirely consuming. Every track blends together wonderfully and sounds like one coherent, auditory thought.
