There were countless unforgettable moments throughout the week that we were on the festival grounds. For instance, the transition between Ivy Lab and Of The Trees was remarkably smooth. It was only when the electronic screen at the Main Stage changed that it became evident the decks had been handed over. Of The Trees also played beyond his allotted time, keeping the stage alive, and remarked, “No one told me to stop, so I kept playing.”
We were heading to check out the other stages in the forested area when Bianca Oblivion started sampling the opening riff of Linkin Park’s iconic track Faint. Of course, this dragged us back to Main Stage – and we ended up staying at the stage until it closed that night. Another standout performance was New Zealand artist K+Lab, who made an electrifying debut on the Cantina Stage.
In addition to the musical performances, the festival featured a diverse array of art installations, live painters and roaming art performances. Among the more than sixty original art pieces, the biggest standout installation for us was Underground Circus’ “Giant Marionette”, which had an aerialist from the group performing through the weekend. It was also, quite possibly, the biggest art installation on the festival grounds.
Some other honourable mentions include: “The Sandbox Lounge”, which celebrated its eighth year at Bass Coast with a dedicated eight-person team; the “Penny Exchange,” described as a “whimsical tickle trunk meets free library.” This installation perfectly aligned with the Bass Coast 2024 theme by encouraging attendees to “reuse, re-love, and re-wear.”
Overall, Bass Coast 2024 proved to be an exceptional celebration of music, art, and community. With the incredible music performances, awesome stage upgrades to innovative works of art, the organizers showcased their commitment to creativity and REflection. We’ll be sure to come back to Bass Coast year after year because, quite frankly, we’ll never get enough.
