Bumbershoot returns for 50th Anniversary with stellar Seattle-centric lineup

After a few years of uncertainty, Bumbershoot has returned with certainty for 2023 with a killer lineup!

The music and arts festival was thrown into turmoil in 2019 when presenter AEG chose not to renew their contract. Further complicating the issue was the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, which left Bumbershoot in a lurch. Thankfully, startup New Rising Sun will be bringing the iconic festival back to its roots, meaning more focus on art and less focus on high-ticket musicians.

We are excited for Bumbershoot’s glorious 50th-anniversary return, including a dance music lineup curated by none other than local titan Sean Majors, to the Seattle Center on September 2 and 3, 2023.

Bumbershoot’s lineup taps into EDM stars Zhu, A-Trak, Fatboy Slim, and more

Steven Severin, stalwart Seattle concert promoter, co-owner of Neumos, and one part of the New Rising Sun trio told Seattle Times, “We’re trying to put together a new model that can go around the country and can hopefully catch on.” Tickets for Bumbershoot’s golden birthday went on sale last month and now the lineup is here in all its glory.

The lineup features San Francisco-based electronic talent Zhu, whose debut track Faded earned him a Grammy nomination in the Best Dance Recording category. Notable names from the Seattle area are Studio 4/4 residents Simone BG and Fouad Masoud. Last, but most certainly not least is Chong the Nomad, who co-produced a single in Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Some other notable names from outside the PNW sphere include Montreal heavyweight and president of Fool’s Gold Records, A-Trak; living legend Fatboy Slim; NYC duo Matt and Kim; South African female DJ Uncle Waffles and the Amapiano genre duo Major League DJz.

Lineup also calls on stellar rap, hip-hop, garage rock

In the non-EDM genres, there’s loads of talent originating from the PNW. Kicking off this list are a ton of Seattle-based or Seattle-born artists. First up is all-female rock band Thunderpussy, who celebrated being able to trademark their band name after a five-year fight with a special release of the Thunderpussy IPA with the Future Primitive Brewing Company.

Next are hip-hop and rap artist Dave B; hip-hop artist Sol, whose second album Yours Truly hit the #1 spot on iTunes’ US Hip-Hop Chart; garage rock band Girl Trouble; and alternative rock band The Dandy Warhols.

New Orlean’s Rebirth Brass Band will also appear, whose members actually appeared in several episodes of the HBO series Tremé. Additionally, some of the band members were consultants on the series. Other can’t-miss acts include R&B group Durand Jones, American rapper Benny the Butcher, and French rock band Slift.
