It’s been an exciting season as live shows begin their return to the Pacific Northwest. A flurry of show announcements, club re-openings, and ever-changing state and federal COVID-19 guidelines make for a beautifully chaotic plunge into the summer months. The latest events production company to take the jump into the PNW dance music scene: Disco Donnie Presents (DDP), in partnership with Upper Left Live.
Together, their first show comes out of the gate swinging. On August 15th, Higher Ground Presents: Diplo, Dom Dolla, Walker & Royce, VNSSA, LP Giobbi, and Subset will bring house all night long to the Seattle Center. During the heat of Seattle summer, there’s no better way to spend it than dancing to some house music. Make sure to grab tickets on their website before the high-profile event sells out.
Disco Donnie Presents heads to Seattle
While this isn’t Disco Donnie’s first venture into the PNW, it is the company’s first large event in Seattle. DDP frequently held events with one of the largest promoters in Portland pre-pandemic, Red Cube. Although it might be too early to say, one could reasonably guess this Seattle event marks a larger chapter of DDP’s expansion into the PNW.
For context, this move is exciting for several reasons. First being a vacuum for a large promoter to step into following the exit of USC Events which previously secured a strong foothold in PNW dance music events. DDP (and their 16,000 and counting events) is one of the perfect contenders to provide the capital and experience to bring high quality events to our region. Especially as they tap into the resources of promoters who have a wealth of knowledge about the market.
Additionally, this is a significant event for Upper Left. With a quiet 2020 following years of increasingly popular dance music events in Seattle, they’re picking up where it left off. Sean Majors, co-founder of Upper Left, announced the show on Facebook last week stating its personal significance.
What’s next is to be determined, in part by us
During this shower of season announcements, it’s important to remember we aren’t out of the woods yet. Pandemic precautions are easing, but still very much present. The venues that have gone through the hoops of re-opening are painfully aware of the current restrictions, but attendees should go into events with that awareness as well. Shortly after the show announcement, Upper Left also posted a dedication to enforcing all safety measures enacted by state, federal, and local entities.
We’re all excited by the premise of shows returning, and supporting the local promoters and artists we all know and love. A long-term partnership between Disco Donnie Presents and Upper Left could certainly help sustain the PNW dance music scene. Enjoy some sun this summer and grab tickets to Diplo and the other great artists on the lineup for August 15th at the Seattle Center.
