New music is always a good thing. Whether the releases end up becoming forgettable tracks or major hits, taking in an artist’s fresh creation is a treat. When that new music comes from a group of some of the best drum and bass producers on the planet, that’s even better.
So, the fact that several such artists have released new music in the last few days has us in a good mood.
Last Friday, Sub Focus and Wilkinson shared the second single from their Portals album project. On the same day, Friction released his first new tune of the year. Just a couple of days later, Delta Heavy dropped their collaboration with MUZZ on Liquicity Records. See why we’re so happy? If not, check out the tunes below to get a better idea of why the latest dose of drum and bass has our dopamine levels up.
Sub Focus & Wilkinson – “Just Hold On”
Following a track like Illuminate is tough. One of the best drum and bass releases of 2019, the first single from the upcoming collaborative album project between Sub Focus and Wilkinson set the standard for what to expect from the duo. Now, with the release of Just Hold On, we’re getting a better idea of the direction they’re are headed.
According to a Facebook post from Sub Focus, Portals will be “taking our styles in a more expansive and experimental direction.” It only takes one listen of the two tracks released so far to understand exactly what he means.
Spanning the genre of drum and bass, we can’t wait to hear what else the duo has in store. We’re not the only ones, as Just Hold On was named BBC Radio 1’s “Hottest Record in the World” by legendary DJ and broadcaster Annie Mac over the weekend.
Delta Heavy & MUZZ (feat. Cammie Robinson) – “Higher Ground”
Liquicity Records is no stranger to high quality drum and bass. When Delta Heavy joins their ranks, the end product isn’t in question. Higher Ground, a collaboration from the duo with Monstercat-mainstay MUZZ, which features vocalist Cammie Robinson, shows why that’s the case. The single follows the release of the Only in Dreams (Remixes) album that came out earlier this year. Higher Ground looks to be setting up a run of new releases from Delta Heavy, and we’re ready for more new music from the duo.
Friction (feat. Liam Bailey) – “Yesterday”
Drum and bass legend Friction has been keeping busy in quarantine. From releasing live-sets and starting new podcasts to releasing new music, the multi-label boss is staying productive, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
His latest work, and first tune of 2020, features Liam Bailey, and takes listeners on a reflective journey that many can relate to given the current cirumstances many of us find ourselves in.
Friction shared his thoughts on the song on Facebook, saying, “The last few weeks have been a test for us all and I, like many of you, have had times where I’ve really struggled with everything. I really wanted to release a record that summed up how a lot of us are feeling with the current situation.” Per usual, he nailed it. Count us among those hoping for more from Friction in the near future.
Let us know what you think of the string of recent releases from some of the best artists in drum and bass! We can never get enough new music, but this batch of tunes should hold us over for a bit. Share your thoughts with us by commenting below, on Facebook, or replying on Twitter!
