The impact of the spread of COVID-19 is being felt throughout the music industry and beyond. The Northwest nightlife scene is experiencing hard hits, with artists, photographers, promoters, venues, and more feeling the effects throughout our region. Local producer and DJ Angelo Carosio, aka Toastercookie, had a great idea: Quarantined Beats, a compilation album of tunes made by local artists who are cooped up over the next few weeks.
Sounds awesome, right? We thought so too. Submit your tune for consideration for the Quarantined Beats compilation album here, by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31st. The album will be released on various streaming platforms on Monday, April 20th.
Update: We’re extending the submission date by one week! So, submissions will now be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7th! We’ll be using one track per artist, but feel free to submit multiple tunes for consideration.
Update #2: As the stay-home order for Washington has been extended through the month of April, we’ve decided to do the same with our submissions! Songs will now be accepted for consideration until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th. In addition, we’ll be sharing one tune from the upcoming album on Monday, April 20th, with the full body of work out sometime in May.
“We’re all gonna have a lot of time at home in the next couple of weeks, so I thought it would be cool to give local producers some motivation to get to work and make something cool while they’re stuck at home,” says Carosio. “We’ll pick the best 20 or so tunes and release them in a big pack for ‘pay what you want’, and all proceeds will go to support local clubs that have had to close.”
While most of the news we’ve been hearing lately isn’t great, that doesn’t mean we can’t try and find some positives. Our local scene is vibrant and dedicated, full of incredibly talented people who deserve a feature in Quarantined Beats. We’ve had our fair share of ups and downs in recent years, and we’ve always managed to come through the other side.
Until things calm down, there are some resources available for those who may have lost their jobs over the last few weeks. It’s a “wait and see” process as more information is learned and shared daily. So, we wait, but that doesn’t mean we have to be idle.
Let us know how you’re practicing your social distancing, and how excited you are to see what our local artists can create during this tough time! We know that we have plenty of talented producers who will undoubtedly blow us away with their Quarantined Beats tunes.
