Leave it to Excision to have some tricks up his sleeve when it comes to the third edition of Bass Canyon. Returning to the Gorge Amphitheater August 28th-30th, the Canadian dubstep icon’s neck-breaking festival features a massive lineup. Breaking it down is no easy task! With five headliners still to be announced, we’ve had half of our DMNW Bass Canyon wish list fulfilled. After combing through this year’s act’s, we’ve got our fingers crossed for some legendary B2B announcements. Destroid anyone?
Too Hot Too Handle
The world last witnessed Excision, Downlink, and KJ Sawka perform as Destroid during Lost Land’s inaugural throwdown in 2017. Destroid’s reunion was so hot that a fire started atop a volcano situated alongside the Prehistoric Paradox stage. The fire was handled quickly, but it put an early end to their memorable set.
Is it time for Destroid’s Re-Awakening?
Destroid has remained dormant since, most likely due to the trio’s busy, overlapping schedules. Downlink will headline Bass Canyon for the third time this August; yet it’ll be the first time KJ Sawka has been added to the lineup. It seems the stars may have finally aligned for the PNW to finally receive it’s very own Destroid set.
While it’s easy to track Excision’s various projects over the years, both Downlink and KJ Sawka have stayed busy in their solo projects. Downlink has headlined every Lost Lands and Bass Canyon festival to date. After the release of Downlink’s Threat EP came The Doom System Tour in 2019, bringing the likes of Al Ross, Phiso and Eliminate. Since then Downlink has made appearances at major festivals such as Forbidden Kingdom, Shambhala, and more.
Seattle native KJ Sawka tours his own live drum experience, while influencing music via his label Impossible Records. Not only is Sawka a producer/instrumentalist for Destroid, but for fellow supergroup Pendulum as well.
While Destroid remains dormant it seems he’s spent time in the studio alongside Pendulum as the trio recently began teasing their return. Pendulum debuted their new track Nothing For Free during a club set in Perth, Australia earlier this year. Hopefully KJ Sawka will carry that momentum forward into Bass Canyon, where Destroid’s fellow members will be waiting.
