Audien stopped at the Roseland Theater in Portland on this month as part of his Escapism tour. Besides his debut Escapism album, Audien’s tour is about halfway over-playing across the US. Self-released on November 18th, the Escapism album has bolstered the rising DJ to a prominent artist of electronic music. Check out our review of the Portland show below!
Visuals that sparked wanderlust
Notably impressive were the visuals that Audien used. In particular, he emphasized the dream-like landscape scenes like oceans and forests that panned across a large screen. Moreover, the sunset scenes that ran occasionally with soft orange and yellow lasers captured this essence as well.
Depth of an artist across genres
Equally impressive was Audien’s song selection. His ability to effortlessly switch between melodic progressive house and trance, to future bass, to bass house left us baffled. Illustrating this, we could feel the crowd collectively jump when the Seven Lions’ remix of Sahara Love transitioned into NGHTMRE’s remix of Habstrakt’s The One.
Together with his selection of unexpected tracks (see Zeds Dead and Subtronics’ new Sound of the Underground dropping just days before), and original sounds, Audien wowed Portland. In an act of homage to his beginnings as an artist, he performed Something Better, and Save Me Tonight. To demonstrate his progression into the electronic music scene, he performed most of the Escapism album, which tied in well to his tribute to Daft Punk and Porter Robinson.
Above all, Audien’s versatility as a performer left us craving more after an hour and a half long set. The emotional energy in the venue was palpable as nearly every group hugged through the last four songs of his set. We cannot wait for another Audien tour, and look forward to whatever the producer has cooking for the future.
