When it comes to electronic artists from Bellingham, Washington, ODESZA is usually the first, and only, name that comes to mind. However, that might not be the case for much longer! A fresh voice is emerging from the northern Washington town, inspired by the aforementioned duo, and on New Years, you can see him perform one of his biggest shows yet!
From performing at local festivals like Capitol Hill Block Party and Bumbershoot, to opening for Emancipator at the Showbox Market, Manatee Commune has solidified himself as a household name in Seattle. This NYE, Manatee will take his live show to Neumos Seattle for what will be one of the biggest musical events come the final days of this decade.
Not familiar with Manatee Commune? How about an introduction!
What to expect at the show
Start here, with a little EP that packs quite a punch:
Anyone who has been to a Manatee Commune show knows the sounds are just the beginning of the fun. The man behind these light, ephemeral, feel-good beats – Grant Eadie – offers a mix of fashion, visuals, and dance moves. Add stunning live performances and you can see why he leaves every crowd simply glowing.
You might mistake him for a violinist, but Eadie actually grew up playing the viola. His off-beat nature and appreciation for the lesser noticed things in life permeate through everything he produces. Describing his music as a “walk in the forest,” Eadie manages to interlace field recordings, versatile instrumentation, and electronic sounds. The result? Mellow bops for every occasion.
2019 Album: PDA
Over the past year, Eadie stayed busy performing at festivals across the country, including Lightning in a Bottle, Electric Forest, and Shambhala. On top of all that, he managed to release a full-length album. Referencing “public displays of affection,” his 2019 release – PDA – captures the carefree spirit of enjoying the moment with your special someone.
Of course, no Manatee Commune album would be complete without beautifully curated vocal features. Cassandra McGrath, better known as Cassandra Violet, and Samuel Eisen-Meyers shined on PDA. Let’s cross our fingers and cross our toes to see some of these artists drop in on Manatee’s upcoming show as his special guests. After the New Year, be sure to keep an eye out for Manatee Commune and Friends shows coming up in 2020.
If you haven’t heard PDA in full, be sure to check out Petit Verdo for synthy vocals reminiscent of Daft Punk. After that, check out the music video for Growing Pains, a slower tune that hits you right in the feels.
