After months of anticipation, FreakNight has officially come and gone, and to say it went well would be the understatement of the century. Night 2 went off without a hitch, with even more mind-blowing music to go along with the incredible production and attendees that took the message of safety completely to heart. Thanks in large part to USC’s push of “The Message” as well as a Seattle scene that wanted to show everyone the caring and love they’re capable of, health problems were few and far between, leaving us free to focus on making new friends and seeing our favorite artists.
Asking around, it’s clear that many of the best sets came on Day 2, from Dash Berlin reducing his audience to tears to Destroid closing out FreakNight with face-melting bass. It was a perfect night full of memorable experiences, where Dirtyphonics stage-dove their way through the Bass Asylum while Afrojack brought his brand of Dirty Dutch to Seattle over at the mainstage. We couldn’t have asked for a better lineup, as USC delivered on the massive potential of extending the party to two days rather than keeping it at one.
Despite the minimal sleep the weekend brought, we can’t help but feeling like two days of music was exactly what we needed. The eyes of the city were turned towards FreakNight as reports of increased security, undercover police, and even the possibility of USC not being invited back to WaMu swirled around. Seattle stepped up in a huge way, coming back for a second night to demonstrate that they were more than up to the challenge. Everywhere we looked, people in the crowd and safety volunteers alike were taking care of each other, as the only thing news trucks parked outside had to report on was the utter lack of issues.
It’s hard not to feel incredibly blessed to live in a city with the people and resources to put together a weekend as incredible as this last one. Our gratitude and love goes out to USC Events, the artists who all brought their best, and most importantly to you, the attendees. FreakNight wouldn’t be what it was without the people who filled out WaMu with more enthusiasm and love than we’ve ever seen. The stages were unbelievable, the music was incredible, and you were all amazing. Thanks for the time of our lives, Seattle!
