There’s a reason the Halloween season in unofficially known in the EDM community as “Trap-mas.” And if you were lucky enough to be in Portland last weekend and caught NGHTMRE’s set, chances are you’ll celebrate this holiday for years to come.
45 East is a well-established venue in the Portland electronic music scene, and for good reason. Completely packed with additional local support playing upstairs in the Jade Room, 45 East put on a show never seen before. NGHTMRE announced this set just two days before, and sold out day of with tickets selling for under $30.
Following NGHTMRE’s mindblowing performance just a few weeks ago at the Alchemy Tour in the Gorge, we had high expectations. As soon as the smoke machine started and the lights began to glow, the crowd already began shouting and cheering.
He played classic trap and dubstep set favorites, Zomboy’s Like a Bitch and an unreleased Spag Heddy remix of Lil Jon’s in Fuccboi, along with Griztronics. Then he took us to Another Dimension featuring Dillon Francis.
NGHMTRE really won us over when he played his remix of Seven Lion’s First Time. This wasn’t even played during the Gud Vibrations’ set during the Alchemy Tour, so we felt incredible listening to it on Friday.
After taking Portland on an hour and a half-long ride, he closed the set with Gud Vibrations and one final show on the lasers that lit up the entire club. He stayed after to greet fans, and left the entire crowd in great spirits to celebrate another fantastic set.
