Niles Hollowell-Dhar, a.k.a. KSHMR, has released his mini-documentary, “Back To My Roots” and it’s a surefire way to put you in your feels. In just over 10 minutes, KSHMR takes us back through the past 13 years of his career to the very beginning.
Finding his passion at a young age, Hollowell-Dhar pursued music despite his family’s wishes for him to find more conventional ways of success. Looking back on his journey he gives credit to his time in India and its influence on his music. It’s a heartwarming story on the importance of KSHMR’s upbringing and his relationship with his homeland.
Featured in this mini-documentary are childhood photos and videos, as well as interviews with his father and grandfather. The men in KSHMR’s life help retell how his excitement for music grew at a young age. He was sent to India to learn time management skills from his grandfather, in hopes to push him towards more traditional routes of success. Despite his grandfather’s best efforts, the lessons and ideas weren’t as exciting as his drive to create music. It was when the duo began to travel India’s countryside and visit meaningful sites that a sense of pride set in and lit the fire that helped create KSHMR.
Now, as a well-known name in the electronic house scene, KSHMR has found success in following his drive to create music. Starting his own label, Dharma Worldwide, in 2017 KSHMR has greatly influenced the scene with his cinematic style. His latest collaboration with Lost Stories, Bombay Dreams, features Kavita Seth’s magical vocals. If you haven’t heard this captivating track yet give it a listen here.
