Dance music chameleons Noisia have announced their disbandment. The Dutch trio released an official statement via their website and social media channels stating that “Noisia has always been about making as few compromises as we can. When Noisia becomes a compromise in itself, it’s time to move on” and creative differences within the group. In 2020, the group will be no more, leaving a legacy of eclectic sounds and a piece of dance music history behind them.
For context as to Noisia’s arrival on the electronic music scene, let’s consider the landscape of popular EDM at the time.
In 2000, the European electronic music charts were dominated by the bouncy sounds of Eurodance (Eiffel 65, anyone?) a far cry from Noisia’s later heavy dubstep and dark drum and bass. The group evolved its sound with the changing musical landscape, a notoriously difficult endeavor to pull off.
Collaborating with everyone from Korn to the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra over the stretch of two decades, Noisia is leaving us with a rich and varied catalog of work. They are cited as key influencers of today’s dubstep and heavy bass music, famously by none other than Skrillex.
The group has made appearances in the PNW, most notably Freaknight 2014. The group is currently touring, with dates in the Netherlands, Canada, and the States. However, no west coast dates have been announced for the 2020 farewell tour yet.
