It seems to be that Diplo never takes a day off. His latest single, So Long feat. Cam was recently released under a new alias, Thomas Wesley. The alias isn’t that far of a stretch from his birth name of Thomas Wesley Pentz, Jr., but it could be a whole new Diplo for the rest of us. Along with the new moniker came the launch of his new house music label, Higher Ground, named after his latest four-track EP that was released on his Mad Decent label. The Higher Ground label will release “everything from tech-house to deep/melodic house, lo-fi to Afro-infused house, and everything in between.”
As well as being the home for Diplo’s own house tracks and collaborations, it will also showcase well-established house artists and up-and-comers in the scene. In an official press release, Diplo spoke more about what is fueling this new project.
“House is where it all came from. Everything we know and love as dance music today started with the masters in Chicago and Detroit almost 40 years ago,” Diplo says of the new venture. “The genre has always been incredibly important to me, and Higher Ground is our homage to the legends and opportunity to champion new sounds and artists from around the world pushing the genre forward.”
Despite being a brand new label, their first official release, Rave Grave, by Brooklyn based house duo Walker & Royce is already here. Give it a listen below.
The next up and coming releases from the Higher Ground label will feature work from Diplo himself, DJEFF, andhim, SIDEPIECE, Born Dirty and many more.
